Hopeless romantic vs. Arrogant bastard

Shakespeare is well known for creating some of the most famous and important characters in literature, but only a few of them are likely to have a bandwagon such as Mercutio’s. A character that’s good at making fun of others by outsmarting them is likely to be one of the audience’s favorite, because in the end, it’s all about spicing up the story.

First reason why Mercutio is so much fun is because he knows to how to express himself eloquently. Being displayed as a witty character he cannot help but to make fun of everyone around him by mistaking the meaning of words or simply saying things like “Prick love for pricking, and you beat love down” to a heart-broken Romeo. It doesn’t matter who he’s talking to, he always has a smart reaction and answer.

Second reason is he has a strong will. He stood up against Tybalt even though he had nothing to do with the problem between the Capulet and Montague which ultimately lead to his death, but even at this very moment he continued being strong by encouraging Romeo to get married despite the families’ dissaprovement; ”a scratch, a scratch; marry, 'tis enough." Only after this happens Romeo finally acts like a man and avenges Mercutio’s death.

Last reason why Mercutio is so great is because he’s the only character in the whole Romeo and Juliet story that dies in an honorable way. In this story, love is overrated. The main two characters die in the most dramatic and foolish way whereas Mercurtio unselfishly dies in the heat of the battle just as a man was supposed to back in those days.

A character like this is more interesting because of all the brilliance behind him; it is known that “in some literary circles Mercutio was removed as he was increasingly stealing the show from Romeo, the lead character (with Juliet) in this play... “ 1 . Mercutio FTW!

My favorite character from Romeo & Juliet is Mercutio for many reasons, the first one being the fact that he's not afraid to say what he thinks and is quite eloquent in doing so. He's displayed as a strong person. Another reason why I like him so much is that he's one of Romeo's closest friends and I like the Montesque better than the Capulet.


"A gentleman, Nurse, that loves to hear himself talk, and will speak more in a minute than he will stand to in a month."

I MUST emphazise the fact that he's the ONLY character in the whole story that dies for a reasonable and understandable cause: friendship.

Life being what it is

This is the story of what life is to a girl who likes to think of herself as a complex yet not very complicated being, but not so naive to think that she’s born in this gigantic city of Mexico to achieve a specific or celestial goal. She tries to live, as much as possible, a simple happy life until, well, life happens; as Mignon McLaughlin once said “The total history of almost anyone would shock almost everyone.” Life is a total that can be described by special moments and it’s the little details of these that she likes the most. To her, life can only be measured by stupid underrated curiosities like the fresh smell of wood of a recently sharpened pencil, the weird optical effect created by a pattern of lines on a ceiling or standing her ground on her childish idea that unicorns do exist. She believes in vibes and Karma, specially the good ones and yet, she doesn’t wonder why Gandhi didn’t eat for who knows how many days in whatever place, instead, she wonders if he had a favorite dish and If he did, did he have it more than once? It’s thoughts like these that make her smile, it makes her feel a little unique and therefore special among others.


When it comes to school, math is not one of her favorites as numbers are for squared, boring people and specially avoids anything that has to do with philosophical topics, it makes it hard to believe she’s interested in the Arts, but funny as life is, she loves them. In fact, she’s so into them that she likes all of its faces, them being written, painted, printed, cut, filmed, pasted or whatever, she loves them all and this love serves as a column and inspiration throughout her mayor, which is just another ingredient to her recipe of happiness .


All of this comes to make a girl who’s satisfied with what she’s got and hopes for the best; maybe she daydreams a lot and probably she’s not going to change the world with her actions, maybe she won’t make it after 2012 or maybe she will live forever, whatever happens life will be what it is and she will be what she is: A little human trying to live her little happy life.

V for New Media

V for Vendetta

Hollywood is well known for bring to “life” almost anything it wants, in this case, a comic book. For some, V for Vendetta is just another futuristic movie about the anger of the people against the government, but for others “ Vendetta is richly satisfying entertainment the way movies are at their best, when they prod you to think.”

In the first place, the script and dialogs were cleverly written and displayed. The use of different intellectual’s quotes is clearly evident throughout the movie starting with Shakespeare’s Macbeth and the Gunpowder Plot verses. When such references are used, you simply can’t go wrong. Then there are the well delivered political speeches by the main character. If your name is “V” why not spend 2 minutes on a scene using mainly words that start with a “v”.

In the second place, movies are more interesting if they are polemic. It tries to turn a terrorist into a hero. Destroying historical buildings and hacking systems is the only way to have a peaceful and descent living rather than remaining quiet to a controlling government. The movie proclaims that people shouldn't be afraid of the government; it’s the other way around. Another debatable subject addressed is sexual orientation. It criticizes anti-gay attitudes by narrating a short story, leaving the audience to decide whether the government’s actions were correct or not.

Lastly, the moderate use of special effects. Being in the middle of a revolution means violence is just around the corner. One word: gore. Some battle sequences are displayed in slow motion to show in detail how blood sprouts out of the enemies’ necks or how a knife spins dramatically towards a man’s chest; Matrix style. There are also the computer generated demolitions of the Old Bailey and the United Kingdom Parliament.

All of this comes to make a movie which can be considered as entertaining, thoughtful, angering, sometimes funny and other times jaw-opener. If you’re up to a movie that can make you feel all that at the same time, then this is the one for you.

Fave Artist

My fave fave fave artist at the time is Amy Adams :D

I love how she portraits her characters and her versatility. She's been acting for a quite some time now, and makes her a good yet young actress.
